This Sunday was a perfect ending to my first week back in California. I decided to drive down to Santa Monica on Saturday to see John West, an artist who's music I absolutely adore. However, thanks to my delayed departure, I missed him at the promenade on Saturday. Luckily, he was there on Sunday as well :). He's much taller than I expected. Overall, I'm so glad I was finally able to hear the music I listen to endlessly live.

Wednesday February, 10, 2010 a blizzard struck New York City, and BOY was it a beautiful thing to witness. Also, very hard to get around in, thank goodness classes were cancelled. However, I roamed around a bit and took photographs in black and white!

This past Saturday, after work I have a very eventful night. I paid Webster Hall, a well know club in New York City a visit because Ke$ha was performing. So Ke$ha is from LA, she featured Dirt Nasty in her video Tik Tok, which means she's cool with the whole Cisco, Shwayze, Mickey Avalon, DJ Skeet Skeet and Dirt Nasty crew :). And anyone okay with Cisco and Shwayze is okay with me! But overall, her tunes are pretty catchy so I'm a fan. The crowd was rather wild, I wasn't in my normal first row spot at this performance, however I was still in an acceptable viewing spot. So here goes a few pictures from the night....

For my English class we had an assignment to translate one of the translations of a Sappho poem. Who is Sappho...mmm I honestly don't know. I should do so investigating on that. Any way, I am pretty darn proud of my translation. I really like to write poetry but it usually takes quite some time for me to write what I feel. But,with this it was so easy, perhaps because I was rewriting it. I still think i did a darn good job. So see for yourself...

The Original Translation

Whoever sits beside you, and close,
Who listens to you sweetly speaking

Color Printing

This second semester of my freshmen year has been wonderful so far in terms of my photography work. My teach loves my series choice, which will be Those in Their Later Generations. My mom says its not nice to say "old people" so I had to spice up the title. Personally I want to title my series Old People, just because its the truth. I would accompany a well written reason behind the title, in order to not seem so offensive, but I'll also discuss the title with my teacher. So any who, aside from my series, I went back home over my winter break! Sunny California :) I of course went to the beach and took pictures. I also took pictures of my great grammy! I have contact sheets to show as well as actual prints! Only two actual print, like i said color printing is a complicated process.

As I have mention before, most of my work these days has to be done in film for class. These are a few prints I constructed myself, I am very happy about having the chance to learn and experience this process first hand. Now by prints, I don't mean uploading to the computer and pressing a simple button for a sheet of balnk paper to take a trip through the printer and your picture come out as a result. No no no, I mean the long agonizing time spent in the darkroom, going through 6 and 7 pieces of paper for one picture just to get to that perfect print...I mean having to go through that long process of developing the print yourself, you know, the developer, stop bath, fix, and since I've recently turned over to a new leaf, perawash for fiber paper. This long exhausting process might call for a vase amount of patience and time, but it all surely pays off when that perfect print is the result.

Battery Park

So, last weeks assignment for my Photo Workshop Class was to take pictures of what ever I please :)! Great right, not so much, I had no idea what to do. However, I asked some locals and they steered me down the right path. I ended up taking a long peaceful trip down to Battery Park. Not to mention, it was a be-a-utiful day in the city.

Now in this class, we are going back to the basics which means FILM FILM FILM! But of course my digital camera had to come along for the ride lol. So, I spent all this time roaming around, deeply in thought about each frame, and what do u know my second roll of film did not get put in properly. And how about that, it was my favor roll too. So those pictures I just couldn't wait to see developed, will never be.

But hey, I didn't sit and cry about it, the next day I just went back. It was raining this day however. But I love the rain, so it didn't bother me. I went to the same place, retraced my step, reshot the pictures I could. But there were a few that just got away. The previous day when I got to the top of this abstract sculpture in Battery Park, there were a group a young people. Just relaxing, taking a breathe, breathing in "funny cigarettes" , very welcoming group of people. When I asked to shoot them they were extremely nice about it, very hard to come by these days in street photography. I really regret not shooting any in digital. They all wore black,there will be one shot I will never forget. They were in their natural positions, passing their choice of smoke and this girl with breathe-taking piercing eyes took a quick look at the camera. BOY oh BOY! Would that have been a gorgeous black and white print, all that black with the juxtaposition of her light eyes. May that frame never be forgotten lol :)

On the second day, my friend Matt and I stubbled upon the cutest thing, these toddlers and their garden. Their parents were kind enough to let us shoot them. Then we moseyed along to some kids playing hand ball. I got a nice portrait of one of them.

Yet Another Shwayze Concert

OVERALL LOVED IT!

Okay, I'll start from the beginning. I arrived early like usually to get a good spot, and while I'm walking up, who do I see unloading their belongings, Shwayze himself. lol I just asked for a hug and told him I'd see him inside, the man was busy I didn't want to overstep my boundaries. So, I moseyed along to the line and of course start mingling lol! And a few seconds later rolls up Cisco.....we exchanges heyyyy's as he made his way inside. Then a few moments later Shwayze rolls up from the bus, the new people I met were talking to him and what not, and asked for pictures. So I decided to get one to :)

So hours passed, the aching pain in my feet continued, then we were finally let in! Front row status of course lol. Boy oh BOY! These opening acts! Some were tolerable....but others the only thing I could say was "what the hell"! The first act I didn't even bother wasting memory card space, battery power, and energy. They were ridiculous, it was there first show so I commend there cougar, but it was just...mmm how can I put it..annoying....unnecessary.....and a mess!
Then follows another insane act. Some compared him to Mickey Avalon, I beg to differ. I like Mickey Avalon, I despise this character named Beardo. He was highly far from sober, high off of who knows what and he fell off the stage. It was just sloppy. I did take pictures of him though, only because I loved his hair :)

And then there was this girl....she was cool. Didn't blow me away, didn't rock my sock, didn't repulse me, just okay. She was pretty though, and I did like her style.

B.O.B. is when the opening acts took a good turn, mostly because of his gorgeous and talented guitarist. OMG! He played sooo well and was into what he was doing. His facial expressions said it all, I could really tell he enjoys what he does. The way he played was intriguing and his looks were just a plus lol. His smile ahhhhhhhhhh LOVED IT! I hope to see him again. Oh yea....B.O.B. was cool, I was annoyed by his first song, but once he brought his band out I began to enjoy his performance. Most of these pictures are of the guitarist...there may be one of B.O.B(he wasn't my main focus lol)

And last but we all know definitely not least...Shwayze and Cisco. What can I say, they ALWAYS deliver. Hopefully next time, he will recognize me again...and I'll be chillin with them around the city after the show. I love these guys, their music, but what really hits me is there humbleness. I don't think I would like them as much as I do if they were jerks full of themselves. The only thing that made me very upset is the fact little kids don't know how to behave and the show was cut. No goodbyes, no thank you for coming, just ambushed off the stage by security. Thats the only difference between the Cali and NY show, fool's not knowing how to act. SMH. But I still had a good time. I can NOT wait until November 3,2009 Let It Beat hits stores!And I will be supporting them and actually buying the CD :)

Ahhhh :) the entertaining time I just had making Photograms! I for one loveee

developing prints rather than film....I like to see it develop before my eyes :). So for

those who don't know what a photogram is....its taking a sheet of photo paper, putting

an object over it and exposing it to light! I instantly knew when the project was

assigned, I wanted my photogram to be my future tattoo. It took a few tries to get it

just the way I wanted. But I eventually got it! :)

The saturday before my big departure to New York City, I was the photographer at someones wedding...and BOY was it a lot of work lol! I had a nice time, showed me weddings are a lot of work. SO, you would think I had some well earned sleep that night...not the story! I had a mission, a mission to wake up at 4 am in the morning to go down to Malibu to take some photographs of the sun rising. This was truly a test of self discipline, I was exhausted...probably didn't doze off until 1am, but I still arose out of my much needed slumber. Then headed out on this very dark intimidating journey, it is the most scariest thing driving along PCH when its pitch black out. When I looked to my left...all I saw was this black abyss.lol I was pretty nerves at first. But then I came across these long lines of parked cars which belonged to determined surfers up as early as I. I guess the saying "the early bird gets the worm" applied to us all. They caught there waves while I got great shots. In the end all was well, I still didn't go to sleep when I got back home. However I was really satisfied with my photographs. I must say, I was very proud of myself, and the outcome of this was outstanding!

Last day of hanging with my buddies...my crew...my main squeezes (lol)...well some of them. Two out of six were missing. There were more people outside of my Usual Six here with me this day...they were such entertaining company! So we all got along just fine. We had fun, I was extremely tired due to waking up at 4am that morning to take pictures of the sunrise(which I will have pictures of up soon!) So here goes pictures for our last outing. OMG! SO I never really take pictures at night because it's such an obstacle due to me not owning a tripod(YET). However, tonight the moon was just simply gorgeous, and it had these sheer thin clouds around it, which gave off quite a romantic feel. So as soon as I got home, I ran upstairs to my moms balcony, startled her a bit in the process lol. But any who, I wanted to make sure I could see the moon from the balcony, and you bet you bottom I COULD! Then, I went hunting for a prop to set my camera on to avoid the shake of my unsteady hands, and a random box did just the trick! So after some readjusting a few times, fiddling with the aperture and shutter speed, the end products are below. I wish the houses weren't in the way, but I am still proud of capturing the essence of the moons beauty.

During my senior year my Photo AP teacher had us do an assignment based around David Hockney's, a well known photographer, work. It's basically a collage. So for the assignment in class I did a few of these collages manually, I printed out different versions of one picture and made an abstract collage out of it. However today, i did all the same work, just on Photoshop. Its quite entertaining either way.

A Night Out On The Town...

A few days ago after work I hung out with a co-worker of mine. It was just major maxin' and relaxin' :)with my camera in hand of course. The place where this settle yet fun night took place was at a friend of his's garage. This garage was by far the most interesting hang out spot I have ever been introduced to.The decoration we just so random, I had to take pictures. lol. I was actually the only girl for a while...I love being around guys, its constant laughter...drama free...a grand time is just always promised. They danced, the smoked(only cigs of course), they sang, all while I sat back and watched.

Opposites Attract

My very energetic, bubbly, and entertaining co-worker, Amber had observed some pictures I took of our fellow co-worker(Long-Boarding Post).In her words, she REALLY REALLY wanted me to take pictures of her and a friend of hers. The theme, per say, was "Opposites Attract". This was the best photo shoot I've done on train tracks, there was this train that had a lot of colorful tagging on it, great for a prop :) I don't commend tagging, but it worked in my favor, as many photographers know, color is very important.

July 4Th 2009

Unfortunately,at first I had to work this day....8:30 AM to freaking 5:00 PM...no time and half...just regular old pay. So I really had no bad feelings about wanting to go home early this day, especially due to the drive I had to take to LA. Sooo of course there went my begging and pleading to go home early to my favorite managers, and seeing as though they love me oh so much, I was off of Cinemark's premises by 1:00pm :D. The ride down to LA was smooth sailing, I was worried about traffic, but there was hardly any. Nothing too big happened this day, just spent it with the people I have fun with :)....We took a lovely trip to the beach, only to find it already closed. lol. There were fireworks of course...DUH!. Very amusing firework show I observed from a driveway lol...Most interesting thing was witnessing a tree catch on fire from a firework, it was quite sad.

Here goes pictures of the day...nothing to artsy once again, just pictures. I honestly need to get back into my photography work, I haven't just hopped in my car for a drive somewhere simply to take pictures in a while :-/

San Diego 2009

Boy oh Boy!!
Was this one irreplaceable...unforgettable...plain out fun trip. From being the cause of a car accident to being swallowed by a HUGE wave, this vacation was one of the best I've ever had. There were a few downers, I have like twelve bits from Lord knows what...in the beginning I didn't even want to go anymore because of how upset I was, and the biggest one of them all was this overrated overpriced fair. I guess, San Diego's County Fair is one of the largest, or some crap like that, but because of "certain circumstances", I was seriously not in the mood to be walking around a lot. I wanted to simply attend a movie...even the beach perhaps. However, when all was said and done, we ended up at this fair. Its rather amusing how one mishap provides the fun for what follows it..

So after we left this fair, we decided to go to the beach,which is were a few of us wanted to go from the get-go...but I'm sure it would not have been as fun if we didn't experience such misery at the beginning of the day. I can NOT express how much I enjoyed this outing. I simply LOVE the ocean, drifting out into the water until I can't touch the ocean floor anymore, getting taken over by a wave(but not being swallowed kind of scary), even tasting the salty water(I don't mind).I have had plenty of outings to the beach, but this one is the first in about 2 years were I've actually gotten into the water. I even enjoyed falling about five times, even though a good two out of the five of those falls was because I was pushed lol..but it was all in the name of FUN. The beach was actually the last stop before this San Diego get away was over, but it was surely a great ending. I actually just realized this was the best part of the trip because this was the first activity we ALL engaged in. So next trip we definitely have to invest in a hotel room, because other party's opinions wont matter, it will just be the six of us. :D

There are many other events that happened during this extravaganza, but lol I will just leave them out(hehe).

I've noticed I've just been saying we...so who might have accompanied me along this journey you may ask....the five people I can never hate, no matter how much they get on my nerves, no matter how much they make fun of how uptight I am, a good time and plenty of laughs is a guarantee with this bunch.
And who may these five people be....Amber, an older cousin of mine,her and I actually shared a first this weekend :)Her boyfriend,a new friend Jonathan whom I've nicknamed J-Dogg, this fool was sick but still came. Then there's Lashay and Josh, a newly found couple..Lashay is a friend of mine and Amber's bff and a person who just always CRACKS ME UP!!!. Its just constant laughter with her around. Josh....now Josh is an odd fellow lol jk I look at Josh as a big brother...I actually admire how calm he is in every situation,not matter how heart-racing it is...no high-blood pressure coming his way soon lol. Last but not least....Teron, the one person I share an abundant amount of arguments with. I have given each person a title...I cant think of one for him..we argue entirely too much to call each other friends, don't get me wrong, we do have our few moments of actually getting alone, but him and I don't have a title, were just Teron and Tyler lol. No matter, how much we argue or how much we fight, the Usual Six,wouldn't be the same without him.

Long Boarding

Yesterday I took these photos of my friend long boarding. This sport...well if it is one, I'm not quite sure, is much different from the regular skateboarding. It requires you to use you entire body to move, not much kicking and pushing here buddy lol. Truly indulging oneself into the board creates such a smooth glide and such serene movement. In my opinion, long boarding is something one can chooses to engage in, in order to just get away for a while and enter a calming world, were as skateboarding is geared towards thrill-seeking, fast fun filled movement. I'm not speaking badly about either sport, but while observing both sports, this is just the vibe I received. Flow and movement is what long boarding is based around and the tricks that are perform in skateboarding is what results in viewers fascination. I personally would not partake in either....I'm too much of a klutz :]. A person has to be willing to get hurt...and I'm not.lol

Way back in October of 2008, I wrote a poem titled Unfulfilled. While taking the pictures that are shown in the previous post, I noticed a picture that is a visual of the poem.

Unfulfilled

Feelings unknown

Confusion caused.

No words fit to describe these unprocessed thoughts.

Its like an unquenched thirst

or an itch gone unscratched.

Otherwise known as Unfulfillment to be exact....

I received this book from my future school, School of Visual Arts, the book consisted of photos the graduates of 2008 took. There were two that stood out the most. One was of a young lady whom seemed to be frighten, what I liked most about the picture was what appeared to be sweat on her face and dripping from her hair. I didn't understand why her eyes resembled a deer in headlights, but the picture was still able to hold my attention. The other picture was a young women crying. I was not too fond of the lighting in the photo, but it was a very interesting picture. While studying it, I wondered who made her cry....why was she crying....what was the cause of such pain in her expression.

So after viewing these intriguing photos, I was inspired to take some myself, there actually quit different from the two that stuck out like swore thumbs in the bunch, but my inspiration for these photos was still brought forth by those two pictures.

The Elderly

The ones who teach us, the ones we learn from, and the ones we should whole-heartily love. Because unconditional love is what they shower upon us.

I chose to take the pictures of these elderly figures, because old age is the definition of experience in my eyes, so I wanted others to admire the beauty of aging. Too many people these day are getting surgical procedure to prevent this, but I believe it is something a person should embrace, be proud of, you were blessed to still be alive.
Old age should not be hidden.

Friends. Lovers. Siblings. Co-workers. However they are paired they all share special bonds....and each connection requries a near and dear friendship. Something that is hard to come by.

A true, respectful, and supportive friend is something that should never be taken for granted, therefore when one enters your life:hold on tight, never let go, and most of all appreciate them for all their worth.

In Feb. after a lovely trip to Marina Del Ray for a Mardi Gras at my auntie and uncle's restaurant,me along with some friends and cousins, took a calming trip to Malibu. I really think I got some great shots. I really don't have an intriguing story to go along with it, but I think the pictures can talk for themselves.

Well I could add my new love for Malibu, simply for the fact that Shwayze is from there :). I will be taking another trip soon to this lovely beach, hopefully alone so I can focus better.

Not too long ago, me a few fellow buddies took a rather stressful yet fun filled trip to Huntington Beach. This was the FIRST I repeat FIRST time I ever let another figure rather than my mother drive my car, hints were the stress came from.AND BOY!!! Being an extremely cautious person, riding with very carefree individuals was an eye opener for me. I honestly just do not know how to not care, I need to learn. I don't want to entirely let go my uptight-ness(if that is even a word) but I surely do need to learn how to let loss.

Now for the actual reason for use going to Huntington Beach was some skate event. Girls were actually not allowed but I was there, talk about living life one the wild side. :) I hope you catch my sarcasm.

Many of these skaters amazed me,not only with their talented skating abilities but many of them smoked. I found that pretty darn ironic lol, to be engaging in a breath-taking sport and to smoke at the same time...But regardless of there extra-curricular activities, they were still beyond eye-catching amazement. These young men were honestly brave in my opinion. Going so hard, not caring about injuries,such thrill-seekers, my admiration for their courage is abundant.

In my Photography class my teacher showed me a new cool technique on Photoshop. Me being always one foot ahead of others, I stared working on a assignment based on this technique that has not yet been assigned. Its called Tilt-Shift, hints the title. A rather easy Photshop maneuver, the point of it is to make the viewers eyes think they are seeing a small minature world or a model of somthing rather than a simple photography. Is that what yo see?

During my visit to New York, I went to the Underground Villa(I think that was the name). It was an open mic club. It was very mm......entertaining. The one that stuck out the most was this guy on the guitar. I was so intrigued by the melody he was playing with his guitar. There were also some not so good acts, but it was great comedy ;) But any who...

This past weekend, my time was spent in the wonderful world of New York City...and Brooklyn. The time I spent riding the subways, seeing a man urinate under a tunnel in Central Park was surely unforgettable. lol I really did enjoy myself and I can not WAIT until this place becomes my home. Many non-New Yorkers choose to believe the rumors about New York, how people are getting mugged left and right or how the subways are not safe, or the most ridiculous one, the people of New York just aren't friendly. Well I want to set the record straight, none of that is true, there may be a few odd-balls roaming around but every city has its weirdos. But anywho, I got some great shots so I shall share...
